Creative Writing & Communication
G Road’s Creative Writing & Public Speaking program is a platform that allows youth, ages 10-17, to listen and learn from one another. Giving young people a voice in a supportive environment that promotes honest conversations and growth is essential to developing confident young adults.
Program Coordinator Myrlin Hepworth has a wealth of experience working with young people using poetry. He received his degree in English from ASU. He now travels the country as a teaching artist but Phoenix is his home base. He is the co-founder of Phonetic Spit, an organization that is dedicated to creating spaces for young adults to find, develop, and publicly present their voice through poetry.
G Road encourages youth to speak up and develop the skills needed to be a leader. Creative writing is a tool that will assist young people in preparation and navigation of their own lives while having fun. This year, G Road’s team will be competing in a poetry contest with young people from around the valley. The event will be at the Mesa Arts Center during the spring semester.
